There are as many ways to spend your days in Cape Town as there are colors in the rainbow. From wine on your lips to sand between your toes, the Mother City will immerse you in nature, history, joy and optimism.
You only have to see the view from Cape Town to start to grasp the amazing diversity found here. Sitting on a peninsula, you look out at two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, while behind you the landscape rises up dramatically to the two-mile plateau of Table Mountain with a lush botanic garden nestled at its base.
The city center offers its own variety of experiences, from Victorian-lined streets to a luxury waterfront. The Company’s Garden is a great starting point to visit sights like the Castle of Good Hope and Parliament Building, while Cape Town’s more recent past can be better understood with a visit to the District Six Museum, or a boat ride out to Robben Island, or a stroll through the vibrant Cape Malay community of Bo-Kaap with its brightly colored houses and small streets.
More awaits in Cape Town’s suburbs and on its eighteen wine routes. Head inland for Dutch colonial tasting rooms and vast vineyards, or wind down the coast to see the fishing boats of Hout Bay, antique shops in Fish Hoek, colorful “bathing boxes” along St. James’s Bay, and the surfing scene at Muizenberg.
Finally, spend a day on one of Cape Town’s many pristine beaches, from the promenade of Milton Beach in the city center to the white sandy beaches of Camps Bay Beach or relaxed Llandudno Beach.
Cape Town is the place to embrace the Rainbow Nation, as post-apartheid South Africa has come to be celebrated. Book a local photographer and capture all the colors of the rainbow!
