Seoul is an uber-cool destination and, according to CNN, the city Asian tourists consistently rank as their favorite place to visit!

Though it has a history that spans centuries, much of the modern Seoul we know today grew up in the years following the end of the Korean War. And its residents have made good use of the time! The city is now a technological giant with skyscrapers, subways, and K Pop superstars.

To get your lay of the land, head up Namsam Hill and to the colorful N Seoul Tower which will give you an amazing view of the city and Hangang River. Sunset is the best time to be there, when you can watch the city light up from one of the observation decks.

Even with all its modernity, Seoul still retains its history and culture. You want ancient palaces? There are five! Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest with a twice a day changing of the guards. And there are Buddhist temples, like Jogyesa Temple, where you can learn about Buddhist customs by conversing with monks or sharing a tea ceremony with them.

But you can’t visit Seoul without experiencing the nightlife. When those city lights come on, head to Gangnam for clubs and dancing, or Hongdae, near Hongik University, which is always fresh and hopping with lively restaurants and bars.
